Climate Leninism refers to a strategy to address climate change and ecological disaster, through a combination of direct action, presented as radical (with sabotage apparently the preferred tactic), and a form of “pragmatic reformism” (centralising power through a state). Following Lenin, who argues that after the revolution, instead of progressing directly from the dictatorship of the proletariat to communism, a Vanguard Party of the most class-conscious revolutionaries would be leaders of a necessary transitional period to the establishment of communism. The Vanguard Party, as part of “pragmatic reformism”, would “nationalize fossil fuel companies” and do “comprehensive, airtight planning” through a state.
