Affinity groups are small groups that act based on having affinity with each other – whether it’s relationships, friendships, agreed upon interests and tactics. Affinity groups have an ability to act in flexible and responsive ways, however they are usually based within cliques, have informal hierarchy, rely on assumed ways of doing things, and can become a small cult of personality. These forms of organising will be limited by what a small group can accomplish. Affinity groups do not always necessarily have better security culture or are harder to infiltrate than formal organisations.
