Reformism refers to a theory of change that prioritises directing efforts towards changing existing hierarchical structures through policy or law. When organisations are reformist, they tend to build electoral campaigns to get people to vote, or push politicians to make capitalism a bit nicer. It doesn’t take too long for a political organisation oriented around electoralism, to become preoccupied with electoralism and ignore their actual goals in favor of others. This is not to say that we are against advocating for and winning certain reforms that can make people’s lives better in the meantime. However, we are opposed to reforms that build the power of the state.
